Columbus Tubing Cromor Rando fork blades, steel (pair) - .9 wall - length = 450, 28x19 oval - steel
- Sold as a pair -
These Rando blades, ordered from Columbus to our spec, have 20mm added to the top of the blade and 40mm added to the tip, past the taper. The 20mm added to the top allows you to tune the blade for a heavier rider by trimming off more of the taper for a beefier blade. The 40mm added to the tip allows you to trim off the straight portion invariably left by the bender, leaving you with a beautiful curved end and plenty of taper. Or you can keep that added tip, trim off more of the top and get a fork that's more responsive. In other words, it's a highly tunable blade.
**** These blades are NOT a good choice if you want to build a fork with our lug style dropout. When using lug style dropouts, you trim the tip of the blade until the OD of the tip matches the ID of the dropout socket. With the Rando blades, this would mean trimming off all of the extended tip plus some additional blade. A tab style dropout is what you want to use with this blade.
442g (pair) - Weight is based on a representative pair. Actual weight may vary slightly. Keep in mind that this fork blade will have more material trimmed off of it than a comparable 390mm length fork blade, so your resulting weight will likely be pretty similar to a 390mm blade. Imported.
Please see tube graphic in image gallery for dimensions.
It is rare for fork blades to fit into a crown on the first try. Wooden blocks in the jaws of a clamp and gentle pressure are typically all that's needed. Compressing the major axis of the oval blades will expand the minor axis and vice versa. Sometimes the inside the crown socket will need to be cleaned up with a file. Do NOT file the fork blade to achieve fit.

I finally got around to attaching the rear triangle using the Columbus bent oval road chain stays. Using the Pascenti BB shell and a chains stay length of 43.5, there was ge...view morenerous clearance for a 700c X 32mm tire. I used a Paragon Machine Works tab style dropout and buried them pretty deep. Had I not buried them so deep, or had the frame been intended for 650b wheels, there would be even more clearance. As it is, there is clearance for the 700c x32m tire and a 50mm Honjo fender (with no crimping needed on the fenders). If fenders had not be required, the chain stays could have been considerably shorter and still had tire clearance. The stays and shell required a bit of blacksmithing to get a decent fit, but eventually everything went together will close enough tolerances to braze it up with silver. They are reasonably light and very stiff. I’d recommend them and I’d use them again
The Columbus Cromor Rando fork blades are/were pretty nice. I really like the looks of the extended taper and they raked like a dream (6.5cm rake). I’d like them even better if wall thickness on the tapered end was thinner. I know it would cost more to make, but it would probably be with it. view less
